ETS has gradually increased the writing demands on TOEFLÂ test -- from no writing on the PBT to one independent essay on the CBT to two separate essays on the new iBT. The independent essay is exactly like the CBT version, usually asking you to state your opinion and support it with specific reasons, details, and examples. The integrated essay, on the other hand, requires you to read a passage, listen to a related lecture, and then write about both in one short essay (summarizing the key points from each while also showing the relationship between the two sources). Each of your essays is scored separately from 1 to 5 and then the total (out of 10) is converted to a 30-point scaled score.
There are many ways I can help you on the writing section: I can give you tips and advice, I can lead you through the process step-by-step, we can compare notes on a sample integrated assignment, etc. You can complete your essay on your own time when it is convenient and then send the file to me where I will go over it carefully, making corrections, comments, and suggestions. Then, we can have a conference about your writing where you can ask as many questions as you like. Also, I can model my own writing for you on the same assignment.
